Shaun's commitment to equity at Trinity is evident in her work with students, staff, and families. She believes that God has made us all in his image for his purpose. She firmly believes that God has purposefully designed us each as unique beings, and she operates on a foundation of love and justice for all God's people.

Johanna Steis
Lower School Liaison

Johanna is committed to fostering a more diverse and inclusive community at Trinity School. She believes God uniquely created each of us in his image and calls us to honor differences and promote diversity in education, starting with our youngest students. She promises to be a listener and a learner while advocating for underrepresented voices.

Spencer Dicks
Middle School Liaison

Spencer's passion lies in the classroom, where he is invigorated by guiding students to explore the beauty, brokenness, and complexity of human experiences throughout history. In his role in Institutional Equity, he aspires for Trinity to embrace the biblical principle of “love your neighbor” and grow into a community that reflects the diversity of God's kingdom.

Community Events

Multicultural Fair
Trinity hosted its first Multicultural Fair in the fall of 2023. This event highlighted the diverse beauty of the Trinity community.
Student Lunches
The Office of Institutional Equity hosts monthly lunches for all students in grades 9–12, as well as a lunch for BIPOC students in grades 9–12. These lunches serve as a safe space for students to convene and break bread together as a cohort.
Family Meet-Ups
BIPOC families meet throughout the school year to strengthen our efforts towards building community and acceptance. Families come together and welcome newcomers, and newly enrolled students can begin to form relationships with their classmates.

Vision Statement for Kingdom Diversity

In seeking to reflect the Kingdom of God, Trinity School encourages diversity in its student body, staff, faculty, and community. The vision of diversity at Trinity is uniquely Christian and flows out of our mission. The image of a diverse Trinity community is scripturally based and is already implicit in each of the five core distinctives, mentioned below and in the Expanded Mission Statement.

The Framework of Christian Faith
Difference and diversity reflect God’s character and works, in creation, in people, and especially in the body of Christ. These all reflect the mystery of our triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as three persons perfectly unified in community. God uses differences among us to show us how to love one another and to build character (fairness, empathy, humility, truthfulness, courage, compassion, and interdependence). The ability to engage and build intentional community across differences in race, ethnicity, physical ability, sex, socioeconomics, religious traditions, talents, and learning styles is an essential characteristic of the Kingdom of God.
Truth, Goodness, and Beauty
Trinity strives to prepare students for benevolent engagement with the culture at large. Experiencing various cultures, life circumstances, and perspectives serves to train young people to see goodness in the variety of God’s human creation and virtue in every culture, despite our universal fallenness. Such a perspective leads to a deeper and richer appreciation for beauty, an appreciation that has the full spectrum of color, rather than being monochromatic.
Classical Tools of Learning
Trinity’s philosophy is not focused on memorizing content, but rather on teaching students how to learn for themselves. Through the classical tools of learning, Trinity strives to encourage children to ask all questions, discuss ideas, and analyze concepts. All of these tasks require engagement with various points of view. A diverse student body brings a variety of thought and experience that stimulates students to think more critically. In this way Trinity prepares students for benevolent engagement with today’s increasingly globalized and pluralistic society.
A Rich and Unhurried Education
Our culture often pursues diversity as tolerance among autonomous individuals rather than reconciliation between people in communities. In contrast, the educational mission at Trinity emphasizes going deep as well as going broad. Time is taken to appreciate the richness of God’s gifts. We encourage relationships with ideas and deep discourse as opposed to the larger culture’s consumption of superficial experiences without meaning. In this same way, embracing diversity at Trinity is in alignment with its principles of dipping profoundly into a story and drinking of the greater meaning. We encourage a discerning engagement with the narratives of various groups not merely for tolerance, but for true understanding, restoration, and insight into how these stories fit into The Great Story. At Trinity, diversity has a distinctly Christian underpinning. We believe that embracing a diverse student body flows out of the framework of Christian faith and conviction. Living harmoniously within the body of Christ alongside those who are of diverse backgrounds is implicit in the Christian mission and enhances the distinctives of our school.
